The best free firewall I've come across and I've tried them all. Easy to use, doesn't hamper resources, easy to tweak and every test tells me my computer is stealthed. It does what a firewall should do. I've told all my computer friends about it.

Great firewall! Stealth mode confirmed by four online tests i tried,user-friendly interface, highly configurable, advanced features such as cookies, activeX, Java applets, adds and refferer blocking, all for FREE! It's a must! Beats Zone Alarm!

Though Outpost has potential, the current version of Outpost is not without bugs especially if you are using Windows XP. The developers are taking a Duke Nukem approach to upgrades in that "New versions will be released when they're done." Unfortunately their upgrade policy only allows you updates for a year which is crazy when you realize that they have not released an update for over 6 months now. (January 2003)

The plugins are a neat way of adding new functionality and some users have already created some plugins.

Outpost comes in 2 flavors. A free version and a pro version. The free version has some minor features disabled but is still very functional, when it works. The user support available from their on-line formus is top notch, but unfortunately they can only do so much with a buggy product since they aren't official Outpost employees. Browsing through the forums it is evident that the current version has many bugs. Someone posted that there are 32 bugs that exist in V1 that have been fixed in the "next version" but alas no one outside of outpost employees have seen it yet, if it even exists at all.

I too would look elsewhere until the new version is released as the current 1817 release of Outpost is too unstable.

Decent, but missing some features.
This is a decent product and is reasonably easy to use and 'light' feeling (Doesn't appear to hamper system performance much). However, I feel it is lacking in a few areas that I hope that the new version will address. Particularly in 'leak' program protection against such tests such as leaktest, tooleaky, firehole etc. The plug-in ability is nice but a potential security risk so you should think twice about installing plug-ins from those that you do not trust.

Other firewalls to consider:
Sygate 5.0
Kerio
Tiny Personal Firewall 3.0

Tiny is no longer so 'Tiny' and the latest 3.0 Kerio (beta as of this writing) is headed the same way.

wow great firewall this is way better then zone alarm. Zone alarm uses way to much system resources and slows your connected to a halt this one is like its not even there.

I use outpost for more than a year, now i downloaded ver 2.0. I am very pleased to see the detailed information this program offers. That is not the main thing its all about. The protection is very good - Keeping those Port135 requests out. filtering Unwanted Ads and scanning my mail. Version 2.0 offers much more.
As Trialware 30 days it is downloadable at www.agnitum.com
A review doesnt make any sence without trying the ware it selfs.

i had many firewalls before i had OUTPOST. And NONE of them are AS EASY IN USE as all the others, like bought programs of Norton, Mc.Afee and other programs like free trials from the web. i am very content with it

yet not completely free but trial for 30 days and moreover now the usd is low by ordering i have to pay one on one and even more. no way!

Yeah, this is an outstanding firewall! I did have some difficulty getting it to allow my outlook at first, but that's because it is so incredibly careful at what you have to do to allow anything access to/from the network.

perfect !
so i bought it, downloaded it and enjoy it. why ? no cdrom which is subject to failure and unlimited access to agnitum site and offcourse the easy way to configure your settings !
