Decided to put some tracks from my many old LPs and searched and tried many recorders, editors, etc. Everything from dBPowerAmp Recorder to you name it. Nothing gave me anywhere near decent quality. Most too much junk/settings and more trouble than the time to get ready to record. All I use for my ripping from LP is a Radio Shack LAB-1100 turntable (Built In Amp), Y-Cable and the proper settings on Volume Control, and insure that the kind of hidden switch under the rubber mat on the turntable at the hole when turnbable is turned to 12Oclock. Set to Lineout. Why on earth do all sites say you must connect to your stereo system or buy a standalone piece of equipment? I wipe or spray my LP with a solution bought at Radio Shack, fire up Simple Maker, and away I go. Extremely easy and depending on the condition of your LPs, music quality is equal or better than original sound from the LP. Nothing better out there no matter what the so called experts say:) Hey, the neat little Player isn't that bad too.

Thanks Thanks Thanks to Herman's 27.7.03 review "Recording LP to Hard Drive". I had resigned myself to "losing" my 45s, 33s vinyl, and audio tapes by not being able to transfer them on to CDs. Here in Australia, Radio Shack is retailed by Dick Smith Electronics (DSE).
Being, at best, a computer semi-literate, I decided to follow Herman's excellently simple directions. I visited DSE to price a LAB-1100 - Aus$139.00. During discussions with the salesman, I mentioned that I did own a Teac JC-403 Digital Compact Hi-Fi Sound System, which included a turntable (phono) 45/33, a tape deck, a CD player, and AM/FM radio. He opined that there was no reason why I couldn't pick up my sound from the system's speaker jacks to put into my computer, via a Radio Shack Shielded Stereo Audio (twin) Cable (with two RCA phono plugs at each end) and a Digitor Audio Video Adaptor with 2 x RCA sockets on one side and a 3.5mm Stereo plug on the other side for insertion into the line input jack on the computer.
I downloaded Simple MP3 Maker. The DSE adviser mentioned I had to access Volume Control to select "audio".
There's probably a more efficent method than the following but, I first selected "Record to WAV" and then "Encode WAV to MP3". The product was excellent. It's able, not only to convert all my old vinyl Lps and EPs to CD, but also all my audio tapes as well. I'm over the moon, not only because the whole thing worked quite simply for me, but also for actually being able to do it MYSELF without input from my computer literate offspring. Again, thanks Herman. Not only was the procedure you outlined very simple, but your attitude toward the simplicity was very refreshing and encouraging. The total final production cost to me was a bankrupting Aus$11.91, a bargain at ten times the price. Simple MP3 Maker is magic!!!!!!

Your friendly neighborhood MP3 program rater
This is a very good program, considering that I am kind of biased towards it. I use it for everything mp3 related, except for converting, which it really isn't capable of. Other than that, I love this program, it is simple to use, and there are lots of options for encoding, including 3 different mp3 encoders. I don't really use the mp3 player that comes with it (I have Winamp), so I can't say much about it. Other than that, I can only recommend this program. Peace.

SIMPLE MP3 Player/Maker verse. 4.5J ingenious SIMPLE ONE, completely, free of charge and reliably and only 1 MB largely! Player with Equalizer, Playlist, shuffle and loadable surfaces MP3-Maker reads audio CDs, completes the title data from the InterNet (if one would like) and lets the MP3-Coder and the scanning rate adjust. The coder also still runs in the background, so that no time is wasted. What does one want more?

Extremely practically: Player linkage with adjusted Playlist after autostart, plays MP3s immediately after switching on of the PC on - it continues to go to switching off with next time in the correct place, as with a tape. Unfortunately still none "Deutsch" Plup in found and it was more produced already for a long time no new version (I know however no errors). Feature: Advanced jitter correction Recording ton of WAV, MP3 (MPEG1/MPEG2 Layer 3), AAC, Vorbis/Ogg, or WMA Encodes CD audio or WAV Very High quality VBR option Powerful playlist manager ID3 day editor Decodes MP3 (MPEG1/MPEG2 Layer 3), AAC, Vorbis/Ogg or WMA files tons of WAV files

I've used Simple MP3 almost since it's introduction about 5 years ago.

It was one of the only freeware progs I could find in a world of limited shareware and although I used winamp as a player, creating MP3's through disc or wav was a breeze. I've kept up with this one as it's been one of the best tools I've found in explaining to new users how music ripping works and for the speed alone.

I have to say, I find it hard to believe he's still around and still updating, but I'm glad he hasn't lost interest.
Excellent program.

This is SIMPLE the best MP3 ripper out there. The best! The best! The best! It is so fast that you [literally] save time to rip CD tracks into MP3s. Think about it. A 4 minutes track ripped in approx. 45 seconds! And it could be less based on your specified bitrate and specified ROM speed. And you get a "perfect" MP3 copy of the CD audio. Trust me. I'm a musician who is also a computer audio freak and this software deserves an Oscar or a Grammy or something to give it that elevated staus of being the SIMPLE best.
