A-Squared
This is the best freeware in the market. I have been using it for 1 year now and is very good. Remeber one thing, it should be ONLY used as a secoundry spy stopper and not your first line of defence.
Was a time when A-Squared freeware, anti-virus scanner was a must-have bit of software, customizable, updated daily/hourly, found & dealt with malware, and was compatible with many other anti-virus progs. Then last month U were faced with an update that wiped that A-2 freeware prog off your computer after a reboot, replacing it with your choice of an 'Emergency Repair Kit' (Zipped) to unpack into a flash-stick and repair a computer already crashed due to infections (NOT!), or the latest joke from Emsisoft, a stand-alone prog called MalAware.exe ©. Rushes thru a scan (1-min), probably finds some malware (like a tracer-cookie!!!), maybe it cleans it but most of the time it directs you to their web-site to buy one of their 3 versions of what once was a freeware product, with more bells & whistles add-ons. U would be better doing a FREE off site scan with A-2, at least they would scan your computer with more virus sigs than this tiny prog even carries. Asks U to download a new clone of itself (that's the update process) when activated, rushes thru a scan, and may or may mot take care of the infection, a slow process replacing one stand-alone file with another every-update even on a fast DSL link that is a slow-U-down process. A-Squared U used to be a LOT of help to users who could not afford, or did not want expensive all-in-one $uites, now you peddle junk buy-me scareware that #1 directs the infected computer user back to your URL's to buy a product from Emsisoft or #2 does a useless job jump-starting a dead computer with a flash-stick prog that won't auto-run if the HD is compromised & not booting from a disc or a flash-stick.
Stay away from these jokers. They got greedy and use your fears of malware found on your computers to direct you to an A-$quared shareware fix!
Sure they have an impressive rate of ID-ing infection and dealing with it, but no longer in their freeware MalAware.exe stand-alone 1-minute computer scan scareware prog. If U doubt me, then try to use it to get rid of a bug that the freeware version of A-2 (discontinued) would have wiped from your computer the moment it found it, and BTW no more e-mail or IM or real-time scanning so why bother?
