22222 The mighty hath fallen

I have been a longtime customer of Eset's NOD32 Antivirus product. Although version 2 had an overly complex and poorly translated interface, it was unrivaled in terms of speed, resource usage, and detection rates. It also was one of the earliest AV products to support 64-bit operating systems. Version 3 retained the assets that made version 2 excellent and changed the interface to be much more intuitive and attractive.

With version 4, Eset seems to have taken many steps backward. The product has unneccessary feature bloat. For instance it tells me when there are Windows updates available that I have not installed. Thanks Eset, but Windows already is telling me the same thing! Plus it nags you to install optional updates as well as the recommended ones and I hate that. It has a new feature called SysRescue which is interesting in that it is a bootable CD that allows you to scan the computer offline, while rootkits cannot hide virus-related files and registry keys. However I can never get it to work. It always locks up between 60% and 70% of the way through the scanning process.

THe worst part about version 4 is that the scanning engine hangs all the time. It will show that it is scanning the same file for days or weeks if you let it. I've tried putting in support requests for this, but all they do is refer me to an article they have that does not solve the issue. That is after I wait several days for a response of any kind. Sometimes I don't even get a response. It is atrocious.

I used to be gung-ho about Eset's AV product, even taking steps at the consulting firm I work for to get us to become a resller of their products. But in the end it looks like the program is simply not worth deployment because it causes more headaches than it prevents.

33333 ABOUT NOD32

I HAVE USE NOD32 SINCE LONG TIME, FOR OLD VERSION I THINK NOD32 GOOD FOR VIRUS/TROJAN BETWEN NORTON/NORMAN/AVG BECAUSE NOD32 HAVE CLEAN.
BUT FOR THIS TIME VIRUS DIFFERENT THAAN BEFORE, MANY MODIFIELD OR NEW VIRUS ATTACK COMPUTER AND NETWORK.

NOD32 POSSIBLE TO:
1. CLEAN VIRUS WITHOUT DELETING OR CARANTINE TRUE FILE, FOR VIRUS INJECTING FILES LIKE ALMAN, VARITE, SALITY, AND VARIANT

2. NOD32 ABLE TO BLOCK ARP POISONING/ ARP SPOOLING AS LIKE KBU INJECT, MICROSOFT INJECT, ETC.

3. NOD32 NOT TAKE HIGH MEMORY IN STARTING UP, BUT IN CONDITIONS SCANNED FILES, WILL TAKE HIGHT MEMORY, TAKE CARE HANG UP.

4. CAN RESCAN QUEARANTINE SOO WILL PERFECT AT SCAN FILES.

BUT INSIDE POSSIBLE ACTION, I FOUND SOME DISADVANTAGES (NOD32 IMPOSIBLE TO DO THIS:)

1. CAN'T SCAN FILES INSIDE MORE THAN 2 HIDDEN FILES, EXAMPLE: (FILE HIDDEN)/(FILE HIDDEN)/FILE VIRUS.EXE; NOD32 CAN'T SCAN THAT VIRUS FILES.

2. FOR ARP SPOOLING ONLY CAN BLOCK, NOT DELETE VIRUS FILES. THIS IS DISADVANTAGES IF NOD32 NOT ACTIVE , ARP SPOOLING STILL ATTACK. ABOUT ARP SPOOLING/POISONING YOU CAN SEARCH AT GOOGLE.

3. ALTHOUGHT NOD32 CAN DETECTED ALMAN AND VARIANT, IT NOT SOLVE FULLY AFTER YOU OPEN QUEARANTINE AND DELET FILE WHICH INFECTED BY VIRUS. IF YOU STILL OPEN FILE BEFORE DELETE VIRUS AT QUARANTINE. VIRUS STILL CAN ATTACK.

4. NOD32 DIDN'T HAVE AUTO CLOSE DETECTED ALERT, SOO YOU SHOULD CHECK 1 BY 1,, CAN'T CHECK ALL FILE.

5. LISENSI TOO EXPENSIVE.

6. UNSUPPORT SOME BILLING, THIS DISADVATAGES FOR NETCAFE.

55555 Nod 32

Security Suites are not necessary with Vista. The Vista Firewall and NOD 32 is all the protection you need. It is small and doesn't slow down the PC. I tried two Symantec products and got my money back. I tested McAfee and Microtrend and they too fall far short of Nod 32.

55555 NOD32

I'm using NOD32 for almost 2 months now. It has an anti stealth tech that scans even the deepest part of unknown programs. One thing for sure ain't a memory / resource hog. Long live PC with NOD32!

55555 Old faithful...

I am a converted Norton user from way back, and similar to what everyone else has been saying on here I can't say enough good about NOD32. And while I must agree with general reviews pertaining to their low level of user "hand holding" and cosmetic appeal, with just a few minutes of dorking around you can figure your way through it. I know this for a fact... I DID!

Few sure things in life, and this has become one of them in my books!

55555 NOD32 over all

I have used all av software possible! I used Bit Defender, Rav, Tbav, Mcaffe, AVG, Norton, Kaspersky, Panda, NOD32 and many many other av software and I really think NOD32 is the best solution for a clean pc! It uses very small virtual memory amount so the system is quicker! and when desinfecting it doesn't corrupt the installers or other applications! Virus and all malware detection is awesome! Its perfect!

55555 Very Good

I had this software at my summer job. I was our 'tech guy' and found it very easy to install and use. While it doesn't get all cookies/spyware, it is VERY good against all viruses worms and trojans.

As for this review:
"I turned IE6 off, and low and behold, on my Desktop is a new folder called "w". PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A BRAND NEW COMPUTER, which only had the drivers for the hardware and NOD installed (as well as the other crap that computer companies put on)."
-I fail to see how having a folder named 'w' constitutes a virus. It is very easy to accidentally create a new folder. I think this user overreacted to something that probably wasn't a virus.

55555 Promp Action of Nod32

Very accurate software, but if you let your system for long time without any help, I doubt that NOD 32 can fix easily registry corruption. I need help with registy cleaning so that is my comment.

55555 The Best AV Product I Have Ever Used.

Before I start I do not work for or have any relationship with the NOD32 people besides being a happy customer.

They should change there advertising to:
It is really is quicker.
It is really is smaller.
It is really is better.

I have used Norton for many years, I have tried Mcafee. They are bloated and slow and don't always find everything. Since I have switched to NOD32 I have not had a virus or suffered from malware (I have had it since 9/1/04). I used to run Adware once a week, but now that's down to every two weeks, between Firefox and NOD32. I never find anything but cookies. I recommend this product to everyone who uses the internet. It monitors everything and has prevented me from infecting my computer atleast 4-6 times via infected downloads, emails, and even MS Documents though I switched to OpenOffice.
