Prevent Your Mac From Sleeping With Caffeine
Today, more and more online video streaming services are being used by hundreds of thousands of people all the time. Macbooks and PC’s have become more useful than ever. Aside work and school related tasks and research projects; these systems have become widely used for entertainment. People play games; listen to songs, watch videos and movies using their computers.
Because of this, most users would have to constantly move the cursor to keep the system from sleeping. Adjusting and readjusting the Mac from the System Preferences is not very convenient for everyone. If you set your Mac not to sleep at all times, battery life will be shorter and you will have to recharge your Macbook frequently.
If you are in need of a solution to this problem, Caffeine is the answer. Caffeine is a small program created by Lighthead Software. This tiny little cup is an unobtrusive item on your menu bar that is very easy to use and keeps your Mac awake without you adjusting and readjusting your system preferences settings whenever you need to. With Caffeine, you can comfortably watch videos and movies without the screen automatically dimming and falling asleep!
To activate Caffeine, just click the cup icon on the menu once and you will see the steam from the cup icon which signifies that sleep has been temporarily disabled. To re-enable the sleep settings of your Mac, just click on the cup icon again and the steam will disappear. This lovely app works way faster than starting the System Preferences and manually adjusting the settings. Perfect for downloading movies, programs and large files before you hit the bed for the night.
Caffeine provides you with different options as to the number of minutes or hours that you want to activate it. Set a different duration for different purposes. It may be activated for 5, 10, 15, 30 minutes or 1, 2 and 5 hours. You may also indefinitely activate it and reactivate it when you need to. However, be reminded that Caffeine should not be activated all the time. This will consume your system’s energy and will not give your Mac some rest.
The latest version of Caffeine includes the ff. updates:
* Option to activate Caffeine on launch
* Fixes a problem in Snow Leopard where the screensaver would be interrupted even if it were started manually.
* Right-clicking brings-up the menu
* 64-bit support
* Caffeine now requires Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard or later. Support for 10.4 Tiger has been discontinued. An older version of Caffeine for Tiger can still be downloaded from Lighthead’s website.
