A free multimedia player that can play most video and audio formats; KMPlayer serves as a front-end to different multimedia libraries such as MPlayer, GStreamer or Xine. Also KMPlayer supports a lot of other formats such as DVD, podcast RSS/Atom, VCD and VDR. If your card is supported by Video4Linux, you may use KMPlayer to watch TV too.

After installation, the player will be able to identify the type multimedia library installed on your system. If you have installed more than one, KMPlayer will still be able to detect it and these may both be used. To switch between the two, simply press the black arrow pointing down and select what you prefer from the menu entry that says, “Play With”. On the menu, you can opt to zoom the video or watch it full screen. You will see the play, rewind, and forward, stop and pause buttons on the toolbar. There is also a record button, which enables you to save a part of the video as an MPEG4 file. It will be saved in your home directory and the output name can be edited to your preferred name.

KMPlayers preferences window is divided into four parts: General options, Output plug-in, Source Recording. The first section contains four tabs. From the first tab, you may use the on or off options for commands such as keep size ratio, show console output, loop and others. On the output tab, you may select the video and audio driver form the list provided. The other tabs, enables you to set advanced options and preferences. For beginners, we suggest that you leave these tabs as they are as there might be some problems if someone who is not very familiar with the application will change settings.

This program may also be used to record audio and video source. The program should be configured properly so you can use the feature. Moreover, the program has a bandwidth managing section where the user can set the preferred maximum bit rate.
