I've been using JAlbum for the past two years. It was one of the few programs that did *exactly* what I wanted. There are several pre-defined templates to get you running quickly or you can create your own (which requires a bit of time...). It's also continually updated, so there's a good chance that the features you want will get added (though I can't think of anything else I need it to do).

Professional Quality Java based Web Photo Album Ge
This package installs easily (I installed on Win2K, WinXp and Sun Solaris), and is very easy to expand with many skins available for download. If you are so inclined the skins can be extensively customized to fit your very specific design requirements.

Best of all it's a freeware package that is still being supported by the developer, as well as it's users and contributors.

It has helped me reduce the time to generate my web based photo albums from days to minutes. Now all my pages have a common look, simply navigation system, slide show mode, image download protection, watermarks, copyright notice, etc. which all can be changed and regenerated in less time than it takes to upload the pictures to the web server!

Wow. I have been looking for a good photo album
creator for some time, and was expecting just
another of the usual ones that produce web pages circa 1993
(terrible background images and clip art
everywhere).... but this blew me away! Killer features like auto-thumbnails, skins (choose from 20+ themes, e.g. an XP-like view), an option to link to shutterfly to let your users order prints, etc. The best I've seen.

Really wonderful. Multi-platform, a lot better than other "shareware" or commercial software I have tested.
You can use it as the easiest app or use its advanced features to customizing to the maximum your galleries
