I compared it with : Symantec : heavy, not very easy to use, and rather expensive.
Now I replaced it by Avast!4 which is easy-to-use, free. Many friends of mime do the same now.

THIS IS EASY TO USE & INSTALL! CATCHES VIRUSES IN EMAIL! THIS ONE IS DEFINATELY A KEEPER!

free?!? wow...
I have to give kudos to Alwil... it detected everything i threw at it, ... for a free program unlimited trial for home and pro for the offices, it is a great option... very seldom to you find freeware that does it job as well. The following products are just must-haves...

avast! home or pro
ad-aware pro (with the adwatch plug)
nero burning ROM

all three companies accomplished what they claimed...

my only fear is that they get lax in their udpdates and diligence but so far, i just can't find anything to complain about... not to mention (even though i turned them off) that the avast! "virus detected" and update messages are really cool. sounds like HAL or something! very good!

Presently My Favorite AntiVirus Software
My Norton Antivirus (2002) was destroyed in a system failure and I could not resurrect it from the original disk. I intended to replace it with whatever product was rated as “best.” To my surprise, I saw enthusiastic reviews for a free product – Avast! I did not believe it would be as protective as the major brands, so I installed it as a temporary measure until I found the best antivirus program. That was four months ago and I have not had a single virus problem while various viruses and worms have infected my friends and coworkers’ computers. This week, Sasser infected all our office machines (running McAfee) but not my home computer (running Avast!).

Brilliant antivirus software that does not hog system resources. Works away silently in the background and updates itself regularly without any fuss. In my opinion avast puts expensive market leaders to shamewith its simplicity and efficiency. Download it today!, and thank you alwil

I`ve tested Avast 4 Home, Pro and Server. Fantastic detection and very low performance degredation. Frankly you dont notice it at all! I`m not paying Symantec or Mcafee prices anymore. This is far better! Good Job Avast!

A mix of godd & not so good features.
I compared this program with Antivir free edition. Avast doesn't up-date as frequently and also missed a virus that Antivir detected. Avast! checks e-mail by altering the digital address it is directed through. When I un-installed it,it left the digital address altered, so my e-mail didn't work - so I had to look-up the correct 'DNS' addresses and alter them back, to correct the problem!

Mcaffee was good but it slowed down my system. Norton was absolutely dismal as it would detect SOME viruses and would later tell me that it doesn't have access to clean, quarantine or even delete the infected file! Thanks a lot NORTON for detecting and letting the virus roam free. Avast! fixed all that. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. I really can't thank you enough. Thanks.
