Avast really fixes bugs and is fast
Avast slows down your computer if you have slow hardware before installation it tells you the specifications for each operating system. I have mcafee and avast avast has faster updates and finds more viruses that mcafee cannot find. Definately switch to avast.

I am not aware of my having a virus so do not know how avast! would cope but I feel secure with it on my pc. I also feel it must have been successfully protecting me since I downloaded it a month ago. thank you avast!

3 Star Rating Slow performance, Wed Oct 06 2004

Avast works well enough as a free scanner, but it holds up other programs badly while it scans them. Since switching to McAfee Viruscan 8 I have noticed a drop in loading times for applications and generally better performance.

Avast hsnt missed any viruses, and it is simple to use. But it will slow you down a bit.

Surprise surprise .. I found Avast actually by being mentioned positively in the "AntiVir forum", and since I had a problem with loading AntiVir... took suddenly endlessly I chucked it and tried Avast it even detected a "sign of Trojan" (*.dll) which was never discovered before ;) I find the program very good - also that plug in for Outlook, when you really get the feeling that your e-mails are being checked - automatic upload is teriffic - with AntiVir you had to load a whole program once in a while ... hope it really covers me reliably from now on ...:)

Well, Norton has been comprimised, and avast has caught the virus that their download was infected with. If one is disable due to infection, the other program should catch it. It really has come to the point where we as users need two antivirus prgorams, and thats a different problem.

I recommend Avast as a companion to Symantec if Symantec is the primary, I don't nessacarily recommend Norton below Avast though.

I have used AVG, Avast and Symantec/Norton. After using avast as the price was attractive for over a year I found it to be a great product. However, I also found that it did not catch every virus.

I found this by installing a demo version of Symantec/Norton which found a trojan that avast did not.

If you go by the Virus Bulletin then NOD/32 should be the product to go with as it consistantly finds all viruses that even Symantec/Norton did not.

I think avast is the best of the free versions. Next AVG then Antivir.

Its free and it works. Free definition updates. Why pay for other more intrusive anti-virus software, when this works just as well
