1 Star Rating A complete rip off scam, Sat Mar 28 2009
Reviewed By: Dan Stromberg

I purchased CyberDefender AntiSpyware 3/6/09, and it is the biggest malfuntioning scam I have ever seen. It plants spyware on your computer and then of course detects it. It also messed up my registry and wouldn't let me open attatchments! Be smart and don't use this.

1 Star Rating Cyber Defenseless, Sun Mar 15 2009

I installed Cyber Defender and got all kinds of spyware/malware found. Thought I had a program that worked until I talked to their tech. They wanted $200+ to fix my screwed up system. Funny thing, I didn't have those problems until I downloaded their program. I wasn't born yesterday! I completely formatted my harrdrive and reloaded my O/S and friendly software. No problems and now reliable, safe anti-spare/spyware defence that isn't Cyber Defender!!!

1 Star Rating No to CyberD!, Wed Mar 04 2009

Please don't download or purchase this software. It adds everything it claims to protect you from. You want a trojan horse? You want viruses? You want crashes and slowed performance and spyware? Well, CyberD gives you all that and more! Just as another review was saying, this app can so completely invade your system that it's nearly impossible to get rid of. You can't simply uninstall it. It won't allow that. It's possibly the worse piece of garbage on them market and a complete rip-off. Please don't ignore these comments or others like them Do a simple search for Cyberdefender scam or Cyberdefender rip-off or Cyberdefender Review and you'll find out quickly enough that several folks have experienced horrible problems with this software. Some have even found the only solution is a complete OS re-install. Whatever you do, please don't download this product.

1 Star Rating CyberDefender IS malware!, Thu Jul 17 2008

I'm almost afraid they'll find me and come after me![:-)] I read several reviews that stessed the "choice" of having a free version (w/ads) and a paid version (w/out). And several reviews said good things. [Since then I've found other reputable reviewers that assert terrible things] ... it allegedly "plants" spyware (so of course it can find what the other programs didn't); some of the *registry* "high priority" highly dangerous spyware found by CyberDefender is actually critical parts of other legit programs. Let it remove them ... and you've crippled or destroyed valuable programs. I don't personally know about that. I do know that the "free" version would not remove anything until I paid for the "purchase" version, despite the ads ... and it insisted that my machine was at extreme risk unless I did so. Most personally infuriating was that it co-opted [hi-jacked] Explorer [and other programs] so I couldn't use it! It insisted that CyberDefender had to be my start page, but it wouldn't even allow me to use Explorer by agreeing! I would have had to buy the thing to ever use Explorer again! And even then it said it wasn't going to let me use Google ... that it would use a combination of search engines to give me the results I wanted. Well ... I play Google-specific games and that was totally unacceptable. It locked everything else up completely. I had to taskbar "crash out" at least 1/2 dozen times. [Fortunately I had Firefox and CyberDefender wasn't smart enough to grab the Firefox interface so I could still get to websites.] If I hadn't ... the ONLY website it would have allowed me to go to was the one where it wanted my money! It is a total scam *at best*! [And its website flat lies] ... nor could I ever get through to tech support on the telephone ["all our technicians are currently busy" over and over and over and ...]. Oh ... and if you read the "terms & conditions" carefully (which I never do ... who does? This time I did! ... it says that once you buy the program it will automatically update when it feels like it AND CHARGE YOUR CREDIT CARD [or withdraw from your bank account] which info you have to keep current, each time ... without ever even telling you in advance or warning you how much $$!?!?!

I uninstalled it ... I hope. It also hi-jacked the uninstall program and instead of the Windows Uninstaller, it was the CyberDefender Uninstaller! [Bad habit of hi-jacking everything in sight.] Then, after I uninstalled all of it that I could find and it assured me I had successfully uninstalled it completely ... the mini-icon popped right back up in my taskbar! Maybe it will be ok, but given what it does as a "matter of course", I have a bad feeling that it is going to continue to cause me major problems. I do not understand the positive reviews some folks are giving it. I'm concerned they are in on the scam! [And until I got this program I didn't even used to be paranoid :-)] I'm now going to go look for a spyware program that will work FOR me instead of AGAINST me [I wouldn't have minded paying for the thing if it hadn't hijacked my machine and tried to extort the money from me!] Hopefully I'll find one that will also remove whatever malware bits CyberDefender dropped on me on the way out the door.

I will be making these comments whenever I get the chance. I hope anyone else that has had similar experiences will please speak up! If I'd seen this review before I downloaded the FREE program ... I wouldn't have. And I'd have saved myself an afternoon and an unknown amount of hassle and grief.
