I had MCAfee security center all the time in my pc and still it did not detect 1 trojan on my pc. I installed AVG and it cleaned it up!
Atleast try once and you will love it.

I'm back
I had AVG and my employer supplied me with PC-CILLEN. I'm back with AVG because the other slowed my computer too much, caused drop outs if I tried to back-up sent e-mails and would only initialize when it fewlt like it and took about 30 minutes to download updates when it got around to doing it.

I think thar AVG is the best anti virus software on the market. I have been using it for over a year and have not had 1 virus.

Simplicity itself, no problems . unobtrusive, effective and lastly the right price. My family are not big users of the internet so this system is excellent. We had only one problem on the set up and that was we hadn't fully deleted the previous anti virus ( Nortion) and we had a slight reaction. We just stopped the setup, went back into the control panel and deleted all of the Norton files and started again

For the last 6 months, I've running 2 of my lab PC's with AVG, 2 others with Avast!, and my two laptops with EZ-Antivirus as a personal evaluation of these products. All three are excellent products and I see them as being the top choices out there today. All three have actually caught viruses, as well as a trojan file buried in a test RAR archive that Norton and McAfee did not. Feel free to disagree with me, but here's my thoughts on why I prefer AVG over the other two:

EZ-Antivirus recently increased their subscription costs (as of July, 2005), and while their product appears to be the fastest of the three, the interface sucks if you're used to seeing more control options. It's really over-simplied. I suspect that Computer Associates offers this reduced featured product only to compete in the low cost protection category (the Sam's Store Strategy).

Avast! has an excellent WebShield feature that I like, but their design builds a database of all your files in the background to use as a 'repair template' for use in fixing your infected files. Forget this idea. I don't want any applications taking inventory of what's on my computer, that's my business, not theirs. They *do* offer a free version, but you have to get a license renewal for it yearly. This makes me think that they are afraid of giving out their product to any great number of people the way that AVG does.

AVG runs well as the 300+ reviews before me state. It's free and fairly unrestricted to the average person, and I see plenty of updates these days that ease my concerns. Now if GriSoft would just reduce the cost of their *licensed* product to under $20 US, I could easily consider this to be the perfect AV tool for business as well as home use.
How about an optional $10 license fee to home users? This would be a very cool way for users to support GriSoft's product.

Bin the Bloat
I'm a techie. It's good. It's heuristics even flagged 'Joke' software I forgot I had lying around (locks screens with puzzles that sort of thing) I also see a lot of domestic PC's. Filthy stuff...users usually don't have AV because of cost. Help inoculate the planet tell your friends - install this it's tight, it's modular, it's simple, it works and it kicks the sorry ass of Norton/McAfee Bloatware.
