All AV is as good as its users
I am a IT pro, I always look at saving people's money and well If you bother to configure the software then you got a Great / good AVS, I found alot are lackking but the ANTIVIR gives you daily updates or every few hours. With the recent rebirth and new version, it can slow the system a little when powered up fully (max settings) it looks the same as a high priced AVS i know of which is why i switched over as i believe its the same thing, JUST FREE.

I did take a look and review other software to see how good they are, and have tests to check how good your system is, etc, but i find brand named "big" names are failling more so than the free AVS, AVG fails in my books as does Norton. so its a missmatch that are good and bot so good.

In a test done by a leading magazine company in france, antivir came to 30/50 because it only found 67% of viruses!
Panda, Norton and Mc afee were among the highest because they have +40 000 people working in the company and its symantec most of the time which creates a new patch and update their sofware.
only good thing about it is that it doesnt use a lot of processor power.

I always use this Antivirus software for my PC about 7 months, before i know this Antivirus, i usually use famous Antivirus but it makes my PC slow, need big space to install and it didn't totally remove any spyware or adware program, and when i use this Antivirus, i feel satisfied because it is totally free, small size, simple but powerfull, thanks to Antivir personal.

and I've tried ALOT of anti viruses!
I must admit, when I first came across this anti virus, I was quite skeptical. After plenty of bad experiences with free and pay anti viruses alike, I was not too sure that this would do a good job on detecting viruses... especially after noticing the not that attractive interface *somehow it just always makes you think maybe the program is as cheaply put together as the interface is...* Boy, was I wrong! I soon realized the simple interface simply helped make this program very light on the resources, and the first time I ran a scan with it it found 5 trojans that my previous antiviruses never even picked up on! Even a while after that I remained skeptical of its scanning being so quick... but... since then it has continued to be excellent with its protection... often finding viruses that aren't even in its virus definitions... and as said before, even on a full system scan, this program takes a very short amount of time to get done with its job, even when you have it scanning at the same time you're running other applications. If ever asked what piece of software I would recommend most, free or pay, I would definately recommend this.

Protects Against 80,000 Viruses
After years of having brand name AV programs allow viruses and trojans infect my system, I decided to try the free ones.

AVG worked well for a while but the Auto Update feature stopped working and good luck trying to download the virus definitions off their website (10 minutes with DSL).

This program seems to do the trick. It loads fast, Auto Updates fast and a full system scan is faster than AVG.

I have done some testing on virus infected files. AntiVir consistently finds and removes or repairs the affected files.

On the downside, AntiVir finds infected files within zip files but it is unable to remove or repair from within the archive. Also, there is no email plugin for Outlook or Outlook Express. AntiVir allows a virus infected attachment in but it does find the virus when you try to save the attachment so that's good enough.

Overall, I am happy with AntiVir. It beats paying $50 for a brand name AV program that lets viruses through or can't repair or remove the infection.

AntiVir combined with SpyBot, Spyware Blaster and a firewall (I actually use 3 Zone Alarm, DSL Hardware Firewall and Windows XP Firewall) should be sufficient to keep your system free of attacks.

AntiVir won't scan inside run-time-compressed exe-files. This is a serious drawback. Further impressions:
+ Modest download size (V6.24 is 4 MB)
+ Has real-time virus guard
+ Takes up only 1.3 MB RAM (virus guard running)
+ Will scan individual folders and files from right click menu
+ No frills user interface
+ Will scan inside ZIP archives
- Won't scan inside (nor unpack) run-time-compressed exe-files

AntiVir is one of the best a/v's and by far the best free one. It loads a little slower that avg but protects a whloe lot better.

On installation, AntiVir immediately detected two Trojans that AVG and Norton had not. Updates are a bit slow.

Awesome product
I love this antivirus! I have been searching for the best defensive software that prevents viruses and nasty trojans, and my search has ended. It does not use up very much of system resources (which is awesome!) and also, as of right now, it is protecting me from 79,683 strains of viruses, trojans and unwanted programs! I highly reccomend this to all!!!
