I thought the movie was absolutely amazing. I couldn't believe that the cast sang their own parts, omitting Minnie Driver. Yet, I cannot believe that people thought Gerrard Butler had a terrible singing voice. I thought his voice and acting was amazing. He is clearly much better then many of the other actors they could have cast, and I cannot understand people criticizing his voice or the voices of the rest of the cast. Overall, the movie was excellent and I know I could never reach the talent displayed in the movie.

Ok first of all, all the sets and music were beautiful as always, but Emmy Rossum had a great voice but nowhere near as good as Sarah Brightman, and if you think that Emmy Rossum is better than Sarah then you have mental problems or something because she is not, but truthfully she did have a beautiful voice just not as good as Sarah's. Now on to the Phantom. Gerard Butler. The most worst voice I have ever heard. Oh my god who casted him? Anyone that reviewed him as good or said he was is really retarded. And whoever said he was better than Michael Crawford is really stupid. Minnie Driver was really good at being an opera diva but she lip sang it all because she is only an alto.Overall I would listen to the original Phantom of the opera cast then the movie, because it sucked!

Absolutely the best movie I have ever seen. Have seen it 6 times and more to come. Emmy Rossum is absolutely wonderful. Great. Superb. And only 16 when she got the part. Every time I hear her sing Think of Me I just gush at her beautiful voice. Sarah B can take a seat in the back.

this film is amazing, you dont need to be a opera fan to enjoy it. It's moving and exciting almost making you want to be Christine.

The Best Movie this Year
I can't say enough about this movie. I was so touched by the way gerard Butler felt and played this Phantom. He had so much passion in his voice. That's the way you want him to be. You love him, you fear him, and our drawn to him. Emma Rossom was sweet and wonderful as well as Patrick Wilson. Minnie Driver was over the top as the Opera Diva. It was beautiful, awesome film. I've bought every soundtrack. and can't wait to own the DVD coming out May 3, 2005. The music is Awesome. I liked Michael Crawford on Broadway. But this is my Phantom. Way to go Joel Shumacher. You got it right with Gerard Butler.

Overall, this film virsion of the hit broadway play, is a masterpeice. For all you complainers out there, stop it! First of all, for the people who say that emmy rossum does not compare to sarah brightman, you are wrong. Along with her inability to pronounce her words properly while singing, Sarah Brightman (stage version) is not as easy to look at as our beautiful Emmy Rossum, who is the sex pot hottie who convincingly plays
Christine (film version). On the topic of the phantom, he is supposed to be someone that has a rock styled voice (Gerrard Butler[film version]), not a creepy old pervert who sounds like a woman (michael Crawford [stage version]). Even with his distortions, Gerrard Butler manages to woo the audience with his good looks and charm. the rest of the cast were strong, and spectacular. All in all, this is a knockout! Million Dollar Baby, please! Phantom of the opera is the best picture of the year!

3 Star Rating Phantom of the Opera - 2004, Sun Feb 13 2005

The music was beautiful (as always), the sets were amazing, for the most part the costumes were great. Singing wise - that's a whole different story. I'd like to know who cast Phantom because he was just plain awful. Christine was so-so (but it is very hard to compare anyone to Sarah Brightman..), and in my opinion Raul was the best. Madame Giry lacked as well. She reminded me of a timid mouse. The stage show is much better, and the original soundtrack is worth buying much more than this. Being a Phantom fan for quite some time now, i was dissapointed in this film.

It was a wonderful movie, and play! The Phantom was more of an actor tought to sing than a singer tought to act. Emmy Rossum was fabulous! I only wish I had her voice and overrall talent. I've seen it five times and I still cry!

5 Star Rating this movie is so awesome!, Sat Jan 01 2005

so many "phans" have waited years for the play to finally come to the big screen and it has! the movie blew me away i was so surprised by everything about it! im just going to talk about the acting and singing in this review. Gerard Butler did such a good job. i feel bad for him because so many people didnt give much of a chance because they kept comparing him to michael crawford and they didnt give him much respect at all! in all honesty i never saw the original so i dont have much to compare him to and i think Butler did a superb job. He has such presents on the screen and its refreshing to have new blood take over the masked phantom. i cant say enough about him he blew me away and he brought so much passion to the role and you really got to see and feel the phantoms humanity in this movie. i also have to commend Jennifer Ellison who played Meg Giry in the film. She was very good and very underrated in the film. She had a very sweet voice that just made you smile when you heard her sing and she was very good. Emmy and Patrick of course were very good as well. Emmy can most deffinitly sing and hits each not to perfection. Patrick Wilson has a very sweet and tender voice but i feel that his character wasnt strong enough in the movie and the hair was a big no no. What i liked was how different sounding Patrick Wilson and Gerard Butler sounded compared to each other. You have Butler who has this Rock n' roll, rough and sexy sound with so much emotion on every note and than theres Wilson who has just such a sweet voice that has kind of a calming effect on you. you get to hear two totally differnt types of singing rather than two actors who sound like each other. i liked the music and the acting and the fantastic actors who made this whole movie vibrate on the screen. i give it an A+! and i say that with a very big smile!
