Outpost Firewall

The best free firewall I've come across and I've tried them all. Easy to use, doesn't hamper resources, easy to tweak and every test tells me my computer is stealthed. It does what a firewall should do. I've told all my computer friends about it.

Though Outpost has potential, the current version of Outpost is not without bugs especially if you are using Windows XP. The developers are taking a Duke Nukem approach to upgrades in that "New versions will be released when they're done." Unfortunately their upgrade policy only allows you updates for a year which is crazy when you realize that they have not released an update for over 6 months now. (January 2003)

The plugins are a neat way of adding new functionality and some users have already created some plugins.

Outpost comes in 2 flavors. A free version and a pro version. The free version has some minor features disabled but is still very functional, when it works. The user support available from their on-line formus is top notch, but unfortunately they can only do so much with a buggy product since they aren't official Outpost employees. Browsing through the forums it is evident that the current version has many bugs. Someone posted that there are 32 bugs that exist in V1 that have been fixed in the "next version" but alas no one outside of outpost employees have seen it yet, if it even exists at all.

I too would look elsewhere until the new version is released as the current 1817 release of Outpost is too unstable.
