Comodo Internet Security
Reviewed by: nYdGeo, Sun Nov 01 2009
I have been using the Comodo Firewall ever since it beat the firewall I had been using, the original Zone Labs "Zone Alarm" firewall, in an independent test several years ago. I cannot say that there were no issues with some of their very early versions, but I've had no issues with it in so long I cannot recall any details.
I never used their anti-virus software until I no longer saw 'beta' on it, and currently have Comodo and Kaspersky 2010 in use on PC's, and in all cases have the Comodo firewall in use. I also install the Comodo Internet Security package on any family or friend's PC that I work on, reinstall, etc.
The Comodo anti-virus takes a while longer to complete a full system scan than the Kaspersky does, but other than that I've found little difference between the two. Neither appears to have any noticeable impact on system performance; I scan over night so I cannot say what it’s like when it’s doing this.
I know of a test where the Comodo failed to notice the copying of test virus files onto a PC, but caught everything on the attempt to access them, and prevented anything harmful from occurring.
I cannot go into details here, but Kaspersky (along with a few other paid-for anti-virus software packages) does detect some examples of a specific type of non-malware software as malware. However, as I stated, they are not alone doing this, and I also understand why it does it.
The Kaspersky Anti-Virus also makes you uninstall the Comodo products before you install theirs, but once that has been completed you can reinstall the Comodo in order to use their firewall.
I also use Comodo's "Defense+" and disable the Windows UAC because while the UAC is a good idea, it does what it does based on a simple scheme; I have no evidence whatsoever that it 'learns' anything.
While Comodo's Defense+ can wear on your nerves a bit while you 'train' it, I find it to be far more intelligent and effective, as well as far less intrusive (again, once 'trained'.)
I simply have not experienced any of the issues that the folks here that are reaming Comodo claim to have, and this is with well over a hundred installations under my belt.
I will not compare this product any further with any other products, but based on extensive personal experience I can state in good conscience that I believe this product is as good as anything available and better than a number of products available for sale or provided free by ISP's.
In an effort to spare others some of the grief I’ve seen, I will also state that based on my experience, you could not give me an anti-virus software or Internet security package with a name that begins with “mc”.
Thank you for your time.

Comodo software

A total piece of junkware. Does not uninstall itself cleanly, and leaves a complete mess in the Windows registry. Acts like a trojan virus, and should be banned.

slowed computer to a crawl
Reviewed by: Andrea, Wed Oct 07 2009
I read all of the review, I installed it, it worked until I decided to do a scan, slowed my computer to a crawl and I had to uninstall it to get my computer to work again. I may not be tech savvy, but uninstalling it cleared up all the problems. To me that equals this program has issues at best
