I have been evaluating this product for a week or so now and have found that this product is very nice. I like the functionality of what the system can do and the fact that it should allow for VBScripts to be run as well. Some problems that I have encountered are that they do not allow the end users to configure some things that they would find useful. I have been speaking to a rep there via email, and I have not gotten any sort of indication that they are willing to take any ideas seriously. They seem to justify their reasons rather than looking into improving the product. One such thing is detailed logging. The system only logs when something is online/offline. I would like to go through my logs and see EXACTLY what happened at a specific time. Another thing is that the system has 3 states returned... 1) Success. 2) Fail. 3)Unknown.
To me, if I am putting in a rule, I want that rule to respond EXACTLY as I want. For example, if I want to check disk space on a server and the server cannot be reached, I want the rule to fail rather than come up unknown!. To make a more logical example, if I am matching a string on HTTP request, and the HTTP cannot be loaded because it comes up with a "[10061] Connection refused" page, I want it to fail!. The reason being, I am looking for a match on something, and if it brings back ANYTHING that is not an expected result...it should fail.
I am not meaning to cut their product down by any means, as it is an excellent product. It would just be nice if they could seriously look into taking suggestiong from their users. Especially if they are something that they could have user defined. Maybe what I want may be different than what someone else wants, but my take on it is that if there is any room for debate on what should happen, make it an option that the users can select what to do. This way you will have a more powerful and robust product to offer!
